Launch of Danish Crafts Collection CC15 in Paris

Danish Crafts will launch 31 fresh products in the new Danish Crafts Collection CC15 at Maison&Objet in Paris - one of the world’s leading design fairs for professional buyers and manufacturers. The collection is on display 9-13 September 2011.

 

In a world characterised by uncertainty and major changes we turn to the familiar. Nostalgia has long been waiting around the corner, and now it is making a real breakthrough with a demand for products with meaning and history.

This movement is also seen in Danish craft and design. In Danish Crafts' new collection, this year's participants have drawn inspiration from the past as they created a fresh new line of works. The reference to the past is reflected in the choice of materials and techniques and in the titles of the works and memories of a lost time. Thus, Crafts Collection 15 combines memories with a modern expression and the high level of craftsmanship and form quality that have always characterised Danish Crafts' collections.

Furniture designer Jonas Klein thus refers to his grandparents' home in his modernised milking stool Granny. Anne Fabricius presents Stamp Collection, a tribute to the classic postage stamp, which is fast becoming a thing of the past, and designer Rikke Hagen presents Orla - a modern version of her grandfather's lamp.

Nature and its materials

Decorating with nature and its materials is an approach with roots in the past. The rustic and the natural are reflected in ceramist Anne Tophøj's equilibristic handmade vision of a futuristic tableware set, the pastel-coloured Dinnerwarevision5, where no two components are alike.

The fascination with wood as a material, its many uses and its varied appearance is another recurring feature of Crafts Collection 15. Pernille Snedker Hansen combines old marbling techniques with Scandinavian tradition in her psychedelic wooden floors, Morten Emil Engel uses oak wood for his unique stool, and Peter Johansen uses untreated pinewood for his handmade table trestles.

Like last year's collection, CC15 is curated by London-based designer Nina Tolstrup. All the products in Crafts Collection 15 have been designed and produced in Denmark by 26 of Denmark's leading ceramists, jewellers, textile and glass artists and furniture designers. The collection is on display at Maison&Objet in Hal 7, stand H 176 on 9-13 September 2011.
